I need to find a language?

I need to find a language for my high school restration form. there’s spanish, latin, german, and french (they also offer chinese and japanease but that is at a different building and i don’t think my parents would drive me there everyday). it’s hard to pick from the four. my mom wants me to pick spanish but in elementary school i never did well in that language and i don’t think it is the best for me. i don’t want to do latin since it is a dead language. i find it pointless learning something that is not spoken. i’m thinking my best choice are french and german. i’m just having a really hard time picking…………….

You might want to try Spanish again. If not, French is easier to read and write than German, and it is also a lot more useful in many parts of the world (e.g. the Middle East and Africa besides the usual places). German is easier for an American to pronounce but the grammar can be tough.

I would give Spanish a try again. There are so many Spanish speakers in the U.S. now and you would find it very useful later on.

However, I think any of the languages would be great!

I chose Spanish because there are so many Spanish-speaking people in the US.

The first word to learn in Spanish is:

Bienvenidos!

Which means “Welcome”

i will have to agree with the others with Spanish. it really wont make a difference in what you want to do later in life because Spanish is going to help. I strongly believe that knowing more languages will give any person the upper hand when looking for a job and in the USA today Spanish is the language to learn.

If you have had any Spanish at all (as you have) you at least have a base from which to build. You understand some of the language. Also, of all the languages listed, Spanish is the most widely used in the United States.

Also, German is a real bear to learn. I took 4 years and still never mastered it.
For example:
Nouns:
inflect into 1 of 4 cases: nominative, genitive, dative, and accusative.
1 of 3 genders: masculine, feminine, or neuter.
2 numbers: singular and plural.
Verb inflection:
Conjugation classes: weak, strong, mixed verbs
3 persons: 1st, 2nd, 3rd
2 numbers: singular and plural
3 moods: indicative, subjunctive, imperative
2 genera verbus: active and passive, the passive being composed and dividable into static and dynamic
2 non-composed tenses: present and preterite
4 composed tenses: perfect, pluperfect, future and future perfect
and there is more, much much more…………

I wouldn’t look to German as being a fast and easy learn, For example: Chalk in German is feminine (die Kreida). No logical reason….just feminine. You need to memorize that it is feminine. Window is neuter (das Fenster)–makes sense. Staircase is feminine (die Treppe). Does a staircase seem feminine to you? Better memorize that one.

Well, depends what kind of person you are. I would have chose German because i like learning something unexpected. So many people learn Spanish and it just bores me now. Latin wouldn’t be so bad cause its the root of most Romance languages and English. French sounds interesting too but is kind of as cliche as Spanish, if not as much. All depends on why you want to learn the language.
