When was Latin (the now dead language) used?

So, I recently looked up some Latin terms and started wondering. When was Latin used as a popular language. Nowadays, there’s no real country that is Latin-speaking and it’s considered a dead language. What years was it ever used?

Can anyone translate “good destiny” into some dead language (latin, greek, sanskrit, etc.)?

Please make it sound good. I’m planning on changing my surname and I have chosen it to mean “good destiny”.
I forgot to put “ancient” before “greek”. Sorry.

What are some Latin songs you have heard (the dead language)?

Songs like “Lilium” from Elfenlied or “Tempus Vernum” from Enya.

When I say Latin I meant the root language, NOT “Latino” as in Spanish! I asked this before but everyone kept naming latino songs -_-

What would a Latin (the dead language) accent sound like speaking English?

I am writing a story that involves Latin not being a dead language, could someone give me an idea on what it would sound like? It would be easy if you could relate to other accents, I think it might sound like British, Italian, or Spanish? But I’m not sure, thus reasoning for posting it on here. Hopefully looking forward for an informative answer :)

It is stronger than it has ever been. It did not die, it evolved and branched out to become many modern languages.

How did Latin become a dead language?

Why did people stop speaking Latin? I’m sure they didn’t all wake up one day and start speaking Italian instead. Did it have to do with the fall of the Roman Empire? How did Latin evolve into Italian?
