Slovenians, Germans and Latins?
As an American, I am a little bit of everything and it does not bother me for people to assume that I am of German descent or Native American descent, even though I am neither. However, I have learned through chatting with Europeans that if you assume they are German when they are really Slovenian or Latin or whatever, they find it offensive. I was chatting with someone from Romania and I asked if he spoke German (hell I didn’t know) He got kind of mad and said that he was NOT german, Romanians were Latin people. So what is the difference, how do I know the difference, why is it offensive to them? As an American I guess I don’t understand this. Is there anyone who can explain this to me?
