Which is a more complex language Latin or English?

Ok, I’m in high school now, and some of my classmates are taking Latin. Some have As and Bs and claim it’s easy. Others have Ds and Fs and claim the language was so hard it died. I am taking Spanish, so I have no clue,, but is it really as complex as they say, or are they just having trouble learning?

I know all languages can be hard, but is Latin more complex then english?

Romanian language – sounds more latin or slavic?

Do you think of the romanian language as one closer related to latin languages or slavic languages? In other words, does it feel latin-ey or slavic-ey?
I’m more interested in the opinion of people who don’t speak romanian, by the way.
Oh… and please add your native language, It would be interesting to know from what point of view you see romanian, thanks!
Just to make it clear, I don’t need facts, I just wanted to see how the romanian language sounds like from a non-romanian point of view.
I just wanted opinions, the first few answers were good. I just wanted you to say whether YOU think that romanian sounds more like a romance language (more latin-ey) or more like a slavic language (like russian or polish).
The conclusion I’ve come to is that romanian sounds like a romance language to slavic mother tongue speakers and vice versa, although exactly how much it sounds in a certain way may differ from person to person. I’m still curious as to how someone without a lot of knowlegde of/contact with either romance or slavic languages sees romanian.

which classes would colleges like more?

I am either taking latin 1 french 1 or two science classes. I don’t know which one would be more useful because I am taking spanish three next year. and a little part of me wants to be a Doctor which would be why i would want to take latin however if i do not become a doctor latin will not be useful and not that impressive because its a dead language and one of the easier languages. French isn’t used that much however wouldn’t it be a bit impressive to be able to speak three languages and one being french because its somewhat used and its one of the harder languages to learn in school. And science class’s would probably be good because its an extra core class and if i didn’t become/want to become a doctor in a couple of years it still might help….. i do not know what to choose im too divided and I have to pick very soon…any advice?

What is it these days? Do they not teach spelling in English Class any more?

I just can’t get over how many people don’t seem able to spell words correctly. Even allowing for all the folks for whom English is not their first language ( and by the way I think all of you who fit into this category are amazing because the only foreign languages I have learnt a little of are French and German, and a little Latin!) and of course typos which we all fall foul of, there are so many English speaking folks who just can’t spell! A good example is the word tongue – I have seen this word spelled ‘tounge’ more times than I have seen it spelled tongue!! What do other people think of this? I realise that I am probably just being a stickler!
Oh thanks, to all of you! At least I know that I am not alone out here!
Yes, I have read ‘Eats,Shoots and Leaves’ and also ‘Eats, Sh*tes and Leaves”! I liked both!
I was going to choose a ‘Best Answer’ but I am enjoying reading them all so much that I have decided to refrain from doing so, at least for a little while longer!
You see, I have LEARNT to appreciate all forms of written communication!

What language is more useful – Spanish or Latin?

I live in a region where not too many people speak Spanish, but that could change in the near future. I know that Spanish is the second most spoken language in the US. But I plan to go into the medical field and Latin is used a lot there, as well as just in many English words.
I’m going to be taking four years of one of these languages and I don’t know which one I want to take. I really don’t care which one is easier to learn. So, if you had a choice, which would you take?

Is Medical Terminology More From The Greek Or Latin Language?

I haven’t reviewed every medical term but I feel safe saying that 99%+ are Latin. Latin was purposefully chosen to be an international language of science and medicine due to the facts that 1) no one spoke it as a native language so it was impartial to all and 2) since Latin had to be specifically studied to learn it it kept vital information out of the hands of the lower classes and securely the domain of the already rich and powerful.
Now, that being said, a lot of Latin came from Greek and, as Greek evolved into modern times with modern words, Latin has been left behind. So it could be that a lot of terms are Greek based. Hmmm…. I guess I really wasn’t much help :-)

Did The English Language Get Much Latin Influence From The Roman Occupation Or Is It More From 1066?

I’ve heard about William the Conqueror’s invasion bringing the then-current French language to Britain, but what about the fact that the Romans occupied Britain? In other words, what percent of the Latin in English came from the occupation of Rome, and what percent came from the Norman conquest?
