Which modern language is closest to Latin as it was spoken in Roman Times?

I know that the grammar won’t be the same of course since most modern Romance languages have dropped to case system but in terms of pronounciation (most widely accepted pronounciation) and word derivitives which Romance language most closely relates.

My immediate guesses would be Italian or Spanish.

Thanks.

Did The English Language Get Much Latin Influence From The Roman Occupation Or Is It More From 1066?

I’ve heard about William the Conqueror’s invasion bringing the then-current French language to Britain, but what about the fact that the Romans occupied Britain? In other words, what percent of the Latin in English came from the occupation of Rome, and what percent came from the Norman conquest?

History of northern europe

Hey guys! Hope you enjoy this video! As a side note, I completely forgot to mention to Sami, who were nomadic people living in an area known as Lapland (the northern most region of Scandinavia) and these guys were actually pagan a little bit longer than the vikings! n_n
