What Romance language is the closest to Latin?

I know they are all close, but which is the closest in general? I was thinking either Romanian or Italian (Rome is in Italy). What do you think?
But when speaking French you pronounce things differently.

Is Latin a romance language?

I know romance languages are based off of Latin, but I’m wondering if Latin fits into the romance language family.

How similar is Latin to other Romance languages ??

If one was to learn Latin would you be able to look at a Spanish or Portugese or Italian newspaper and get the gist of it ?? Im Irish and 16 and I also speak fluent German, and I can get the gist of Dutch Newspapers coz I regularly buy them for fun to see how much I can understand, I also speak french and I can get the gist of newspapers written in Luxembourgish (a very rarely spoken language) …. Is there the same similarity between Latin and Spanish?

Answers from people who studied Latin or people who know about Linguistics would be a god send

Which Romance Language Is Least Similar To Latin?

I’ve read that Italian is 85% Latin…which language is the least Latin that is still a Romance language?
